In distribution it is of the utmost importance to have an effective logistics operation. A Warehouse Management System (WMS) is therefore fundamental to ensuring an efficient process. This was the reason behind the decision to implement a WMS at Recheio Food Service, where the priority is to have a high level of customer service. Why was there a need to change from what existed?
Their previous system offered little flexibility in differentiating treatment of different items and customers, it lacked functionality and wasn't able deal with large volumes of information. The alternative was to opt for a specialized WMS that could replace the entire previous system, in order to gain efficiency and respond to market requirements. Guaranteed and error free delivery is fundamental within certain segments of the HORECA channel (Food & Beverage Service trade channel).
Due to the SOA of the WPMS, integration with the Recheio ERP system did not present any difficulty. The WPMS communicates rapidly with the ERP system to receive goods, customers orders, supplier purchase orders and send documents back. All warehouse activities and work processes will be done in the external WMS and therefore, totally independent from the ERP.
Through the implementation of the WPMS system, service levels to our customers need to be improved, productivity and the capacity of the information flow needs to be increased.
The WPMS together with radio frequency technology, will be responsible for managing and controlling of all warehouse tasks, from stock movement to automatically assigning tasks to operatives. This allows the management team to focus on planning, thinking about business development and dedicating itself to the search of opportunities to improve the operation's global performance.
The automation of managing the processes leads to the elimination of administrative tasks, being pro-active and a time reduction of the total processes.
To achieve increased productivity, internal processes should be redesigned in an efficient way. Storage space must be well set out and aisles well planned so that the operators can easily execute their tasks, without any time wasted on unnecessary routes.
Already productivity has improved by over 30%!.
With the WPMS implementation service levels have increased from 95.5% to 97.7%.
